The Yardsale Blog

Hannah L. is a designer, illustrator, and a tasteful curator of beautiful curiosities. Her listings are awash with antiques and mid-century design artifacts, and as a recent transplant to San Francisco, her apartment is “going through a fugue state,” she says.
We asked Hannah about a few of her favorite things:

What inspires you?
Curiosity, foolishness & science.
What sparked your interest in antiques and vintage items?
My parents immigrated here in the 70s, so I think that having nothing from their past made me obsessed with collecting things.
What are your favorite places to forage for treasures?
In Chicago, Brown Elephant or the Renegade Craft Fair. All the shops in Logan Square and Roscoe Village are great neighborhoods to romp around in. In New York, the Brooklyn Flea in Fort Greene or Junk in Williamsburg. The best stuff is in Red Hook — my favorite shop was 99c Dreams. I just moved to San Francisco so I’m still exploring, but I’ve had a lot of fun poking around estate sales, in Oakland, and at Stuff on Valencia Street.
What’s the most interesting or rarest or favorite item you’ve found?
Enquire Within Upon Everything, a book from the 1900s that inspired Tim Berners-Lee to create the World Wide Web.
Can you tell us something special about your neighborhood?
I love Fat Angel. They’ve got Sightglass coffee, wine on tap, rare beers, and delicious delicious cheeses.
